Details
This is a quite stunning old vine (vieilles vignes) classic Southern Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and a dash of Counoise. In the glass, this red displays a lovely ruby-garnet colour, with notes of wild strawberry, blackcurrant and white pepper. This wine is intense and powerful with a silky, rich mouthfeel; an effortless balance between power and elegance.
Passionate about wines, terroir and Provençal landscapes, François-Xavier Nicolas has one ambition; to share his vinous discoveries. The natural richness of the vine, its environment and human relationships are the foundations of his philosophy on life. François-Xavier is a self-taught entrepreneur who started in wine as an ‘entonneur’, or barreler, a quaint term for someone who collects samples from winegrowers. During his ten years in the role, he built up a network of vignerons in the vineyards of the Rhône Valley, Provence and Languedoc, realising that nurturing relationships was fundamental to establishing a solid business. In 2012 Maison François-Xavier Nicolas was founded with the release of two Côtes du Rhône wines. Since then François-Xavier has produced wines from many appellations including Gigondas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Cairanne; Languedoc and Provence, and strives to design wines which reflect his ethics and convictions, where the vines are managed with respect for the environment. Pairing guide
If you’re anything like us, you won’t be able to get enough of this delicious Grenache blend. Beautifully balanced and with a deep fruity punch, it’s gloriously food friendly as well as being irresistible when sipped on its own. We especially loved it with a goulash stew or chicken paprikash, but it’s great with any classic meat or vegetable casserole, as well as with whole roast poultry, leg of lamb or lamb burgers, and anything featuring a mix of roast Mediterranean vegetables.

Wine region

Côtes du Rhône, France
Côtes du Rhône is a wine-growing region located in the southern part of France, along the Rhône river. It is known for its warm, Mediterranean climate and diverse range of soils, which produce a wide variety of wines. The region is most famous for its red wines, which are made from grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. These wines are known for their rich, spicy flavours and their ability to age well. In addition to red wines, Côtes du Rhône also produces white and rosé wine. The region is home to many small, family-run wineries, as well as some of the oldest and most prestigious estates in France. The wines of Côtes du Rhône are labelled with the region's name, often followed by the name of the subregion or village where the grapes were grown. For example, a wine labelled "Côtes du Rhône-Villages" must come from one of the designated villages within the region, and must adhere to certain quality standards.
