Details
'Château L'Afrique' is a Provence pink on the slightly weightier side of the spectrum. This wine is fabulously balanced, with lovely notes of green strawberry and thyme, mixed in with cherry and blackberry. Texturally this is a triumph, with a wonderful oily feel as you roll the wine across the palate.
There has been a Sumeire in France's Trets - a small village just outside of Provence in the country's Mediterranean south - since as early as 1238! However, it was not until the mid-1900s that the family started to take wine production more seriously. Everything at the estate is farmed manually, with as much care and consideration for the local environment as possible, a philosophy embodied by the team's mantra 'Aerator et rota', which translates to 'by the plough and by wheel'. The family grow a wide range of grape varieties across their estates, from Grenache, Cinsault, Tibouren and Syrah for their reds and rosé wines, as well as Rolle (Vermentino) which is used both for white and pink wine. Châteaux L'Afrique, Coussin and Maupage are all run by the Sumeire family and each estate boasts its own unique, impressive terroir. However, it was the L'Afrique estate that really caught our eye, particularly when it comes to top-quality rosé. These are brilliant wines, worthy of their place amongst some of Provence's top pink wines.

Pairing guide
With its beautiful blend of Grenache, Syrah and Rolle varieties, this elegant yet deeply flavourful rosé is a veritable tour through the greatest grapes of the Provence region. As for food pairing, you’ll want to match this bottle up with punchy seafood dishes; bouillabaisse and other fish soups and stews will work especially well, as will grilled squid or octopus salad. Smoked salmon, chicken thighs with tomatoes, mustard or creamy cheese, and grilled pork and herb sausages will also hit the spot perfectly. It’s also excellent with vegetarian dishes of cherry tomato, red pepper and grilled chicory.

Wine region

Provence, France
Provence is a wine region in southeastern France best known for its delicious rosé wines and beautiful beaches. It's also home to a number of protected wine appellations, such as the Côtes de Provence AOC and the Bandol AOC, which produce some of the best rosé wines in the world. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, this region has a warm and sunny climate, with long, hot summers and mild, wet winters. The landscape is filled with rolling hills, and picturesque villages on a gorgeous coastline, making it a holiday hub for many - sand in your toes, and rosé on the beach, anyone? But if rosé isn't your thing, the region also produces white and red wines, predominantly made from a variety of grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, and Cinsault. Whether you're a wine enthusiast or just looking for a fun and relaxing vacation, Provence has something for everyone.
