Details
This Cremant is made from Pinot Blanc, which is the usual grape of choice in these parts for sparkling wine. The end result is a fruit driven, clean sparkling with notes of lemon, grapefruit and red apple, balanced by cashew nut complexity and a clean finish.
The French wine scene can be somewhat of a minefield at times, all we really want is a supplier that makes wines from all across the country while still displaying regional and sub-regional typicity.. Simple right?!? Well, enter Maison Johanès Boubée which is a winery that has succeeded in the French landscape, while relatively unknown outside its borders. The winery has access to all the goodies around the country and aside from an impressive winemaking team, it also has employed sommeliers to taste each wine to confirm it meets that all important terroir feel of each region. The winery is a nod to the old-school way, where you didn’t need to boast a fancy label to sell a bottle of wine and the juice inside is the most important part. We have tasted through a large range of their wines and are very impressed with the overall quality in each bottle. E. Durenmeyer has a focus on Alsatian wines, from sparkling to classic Riesling.

Pairing guide
It’s always exciting to discover a beautiful French sparkling wine that doesn’t hail from the Champagne region - we’re all about championing the underdogs here at GPD! This Cremant d’Alsace flies the flag for one of Europe’s best styles of bubbly, and it’s every bit as food friendly as you’d expect. We loved it with hot-smoked salmon dishes, but you’ll find equally good results matching this wine with hearty salads, ceviche and sushi creations, grilled shellfish and classics like moules mariniere, fried calamari rings, richer cheeses like brie and camembert, and creamy chicken or fish risotto. Yum!

Wine region

Alsace, France
The Alsace wine region is located in northeast France and is known for producing high-quality white wines from aromatic grape varieties (also known as the 'noble' varieties). The region has a cool climate, which allows the grapes to retain their acidity and produce bright, fresh flavours and aromas. Alsace is divided into four main wine-producing areas and is known for its "terroir-driven" wines, which means that the character of the wine is strongly influenced by the specific vineyard where the grapes are grown. The region also produces small quantities of red and rosé wines and sparkling wines made using the traditional Champagne method. The four noble white varieties are; Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Muscat.
