Details
Yup, this is dry Mosel Riesling 101 folks. Who doesn't love Riesling? If you think that this wine is usually sweet, you'd be wrong, sorry. This beauty is bursting with oodles of fresh, zesty lemon and lime, white peach and white floral blossoms. In the mouth we have a lovely crisp shot of lime juice that leads on through to a bone-dry, racy, tart finish. Refreshing.com.

Dr. Hugo Thanisch may have met an early end at a young age, but his legacy has been a steadfast beacon of quality throughout Germany's Mosel wine region for centuries. This is thanks in large part to the family's Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard, which is considered to be one of the most premium and legendary vineyards in the region, and Germany. Legend has it that it was a cup of golden wine from this site (probably Riesling) that famously cured a local elector's seemingly incurable disease. True or not, it's a pretty cool story! The team raise their wines in a 350 year old cellar that has been excavated over the years into the rocks that lie beneath the estate's vineyards. Talented winemaker Maximilian F. W. Ferger oversees operations after he was poached by Thanisch at a young age, such was his "rising star" status in Germany's winemaking scene. Ferger has gone on to be a tremendous success at Thanisch, their top wines are amongst some of Germany's most awarded and sought after.

Pairing guide
Here at GPD Towers, we’re big fans of this bone-dry Riesling by Thanisch. It’s not hard to see why - when it comes to food pairing, this beautiful bottle is fantastically versatile and fun to match up with. We especially like this wine with crabmeat, either served as part of a salad or in some spicy crab cakes, and it’s also a great pairing for lighter egg dishes, which are notoriously difficult to find a match for. Spicy food, especially green curries, wasabi-spiked dishes, and tikka-marinated meats all work brilliantly, and it’s also great with simple breaded pork and chicken dishes.

Wine region
Mosel, Germany
Mosel is arguably Germany's most famous wine region and is home to some of the best white wines on the talent made from the mighty Riesling grape variety. Here you will find some of the steepest vineyards in the world planted on the banks of the Mosel river, which plays a crucial role in ripening the grapes, acting as a mirror to reflect sunlight off the water back onto the steep, slate vineyards, warming up the soils and ripening the berries. Riesling is produced in a range of styles and sweetnesses here, from bone dry, to lusciously sweet. If you are in the market for world-class Riesling, then look no further than this stunning region.
