Details
This is a gorgeous, complex rosé that just screams Italy. Made from 100% Aglianico - the darling of Campania - this wine spends around six months on the lees (post-ferment yeasts) which helps to add a nice creamy body to the wine. We have an intense red fruit drive with a touch of orange, a silky mouthfeel and pinpoint acidity.
Donna Elvira is owned by Tony Fink who was brought up in the UK. His success in the construction business allowed him to eventually return to his roots in Campania in Italy and run the estate which is named after his mother. Fink is on a mission to change wine drinkers' perceptions of the Campania region. He maintains that so many of us lean towards Chianti, Barolo or Pinot Grigio, and often overlook the other wonderful wines of this part of Italy. The team champions indigenous varietals such as Falanginha, Greco, Fiano (whites) and Aglianico (red) in a bid to create a portfolio that prioritises quality over quantity. Fink and the team at Donna Elvira are just one of many examples of the outstanding diversity of the Italian wine scene. Their wines from Irpina and Campania are some of the finest examples of these local grape varieties we have come across in quite a while. They provide a serious showcase as to what is up for grabs in Italy when you start to dig a little deeper into its rich fruit basket of wines.

Pairing guide
Made from deliciously flavourful Aglianico grapes, this rosé wine from Donna Elvira really packs in plenty of depth and distinction. It’s the kind of wine we want to sip slowly alongside dishes of slow-cooked pork belly, lamb stews, and rare duck breast, and it will also work very well with roasted tomato sauces, mushroom risotto, and more robust salads. We also love this wine with Indian curries and spicy southeast Asian cuisine - it’s really that versatile!

Wine region
Campania, Italy
Campania is a region in Southern Italy known for producing rich and eminently drinkable wines. Volcanic soils, high elevation, and a dry Mediterranean climate influence Campania’s vineyards. Campania embraces its native varieties, Aglianico, Fiano and Greco grapes, and a sweet, aromatic white called Falanghina. The top sub-regions of Campania include Avellino, where the famous white wine, Fiano di Avellino, is produced, and Taurasi, known for producing some of the most structured and long-lived Aglianico! No wonder they call it the Nebbiolo of the south! With a growing local and global interest in the region's indigenous grape varieties, a new generation of winemakers is focused on raising the bar and solidifying Campania’s standing on the world stage of wine.
