Details
The nose on this fab white is elegant and open, with white peach, acacia blossom, fresh grass, and a touch of honeyed warmth. On the palate it’s smooth and generous with notes of ripe stone fruit, lime blossom, a hint of white pepper. A fine line of freshness keeps it all sharp. The finish has a gentle, appetising bitterness that makes you want another sip. It's clean, balanced, and seriously moreish.
This is Northern Rhône with both muscle and finesse. Domaine Yann Chave starts as a proper family farming story, with fruit orchards and a few vines on the side. Then Yann comes along in the mid-90s, fresh out of studies, full of ideas, and absolutely locked in on quality. One near-miss with pesticides later, he pivots hard into organic farming, long before it was fashionable, and never looked back. Certified organic since 2007, the domaine today sits at around 20 hectares right in the heart of Crozes-Hermitage (with even a cheeky slice of Hermitage itself). Yann’s philosophy is all about balance: observation, rigour, and pleasure. He farms like a strategist and makes wine like a minimalist - no tricks, no makeup, just pristine fruit and thoughtful handling. For the whites, he openly nods to Burgundy (respect), chasing freshness, clarity, and texture rather than heaviness. Marsanne brings the body, Roussanne brings the lift, and everything is vinified without oak to let the vineyard do the talking. The result? Whites that feel precise, savoury, and quietly powerful.

Pairing guide
This is a fab food wine. For a classic pairing, try pan-fried sole or John Dory with lemony butter, or roast veal with herbs and a bit of gravy action. Want something modern? Try roast chicken with preserved lemon and rosemary, or a spring veg risotto with asparagus and fennel. And for the vegans: white bean and almond stew with thyme and olive oil, or grilled leeks with hazelnut vinaigrette and crispy breadcrumbs.

Wine region

Northern Rhône, France
The Northern Rhône wine region in France is known for producing some of the finest red wines in the world. Apart from Condrieu, which permits only single varietal Viognier. The reds of Northern Rhône made of a single red grape, Syrah (Shiraz). These reds can be co-fermented with white varietals Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne (up to 20%). Ever wondered why Shiraz Viognier became a thing in Australia?
Northern Rhône Stretches from Côte-Rôtie near Lyon, moving southwards to Montélimar, marking the beginning of Southern Rhône where the wines are remarkably different in style. Northern Rhône is home to Côtie-Rôtie, Condrieu, and legendary Hermitage, three of the most majestic of all of Rhône. Vineyards are primarily on steep south-east facing slopes, some gradients reaching 60% requiring monorails and pulleys to transport grapes up and downhill. Other Appellations worth noting are Chateau-Grillet, St-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, and Côtes du Rhône.
