Details
It was love at first sip with this brilliant wine from La Croix Belle. We particularly love that blast of juicy ripe pear on the nose, combining with aromas of watermelon, candied orchard fruit, peach and apricot. This is a fine example of just how good rosé can be from southern France, from outside of Provence.
In 1977, Jacques and Françoise Boyer took over the family estate at Domaine La Croix Belle, which had already been in the family for almost two centuries. The couple is forward-thinking, constantly looking for ways to improve their practices, and this meticulous approach to viticulture and vilification can be seen through both the quality of their wines, as well as some of their beautiful packaging. The team tend to around 70 hectares of vineyard area, cultivating over a dozen different grape varieties that are expertly blended to produce some of the nicest rosés we have tried from this part of the world for some time. The Domaine plays host to a wide range of soil types, so careful selection auto where the crew have planted has seen them extract the very best out of their vines. Being on the Mediterranean coastline, La Croix Belle naturally benefits from much-needed cooling sea breezes, which is essential for moderating those hot, summer temps through the growing season.

Pairing guide
Made from the classic southern French combo of Syrah and Grenache Noir varieties, this beautifully elegant rosé is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. We reckon it’s a top match for delicate white fish dishes - pan-roasted bass or bream would work particularly well - and with deeply savoury seafood soups and stews. Simple pasta dishes, croque monsieur and other cheese-and-bread combos, picnic classics like pasta salad and charcuterie, and green olives with a herb dressing will also provide excellent results.
