Details
Vibrant and expressive, this Touraine Côt (in other words - Malbec!), is bursting with juicy black cherry and blackcurrant, lifted by notes of violet and a crack of black pepper. The palate is crisp and energetic, with fine, firm tannins giving just the right amount of structure. It’s vivid, fragrant, and deliciously drinkable!
Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet is one of those quietly confident producers that’s redefining what the Loire can do. Based in Limeray near Amboise, this historic estate has been in the same family since 1927, but it’s under the direction of fourth-generation Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and his longtime friend Stéphane Bodet that things have really kicked up a gear. The pair took over in 2015 and have brought serious focus to the domaine, working with a patchwork of vineyards across different terroirs and championing local grapes like Chenin Blanc, Côt, Sauvignon Blanc, and the ever-interesting Pineau d’Aunis. With winemaking experience from Bordeaux to New Zealand, they’ve blended tradition with technical precision, crafting wines that are pure, expressive, and effortlessly stylish. In the vineyard, it’s all hands-on and rooted in respect for the land - organic and biodynamic practices, soils worked by hand, and no shortcuts. The idea is simple: let the vines dig deep and do the talking. In the cellar, they keep things stripped back - wild fermentations, stainless steel, ageing on fine lees - with the goal of capturing energy and place without unnecessary interference. The result? Wines with clarity and soul, the kind that feel alive in the glass. There’s nothing showy here, just sharp vineyard work and quiet confidence - wines made by people who know their land inside out and let it speak for itself.

Pairing guide
This bright, peppery red is a dream with bistro-style fare. Think grilled lamb chops with rosemary, duck breast with blackcurrant glaze, or a simple steak frites. Its fresh acidity and fine tannins also play beautifully with earthy vegetarian dishes - try lentil and mushroom shepherd’s pie or a roasted beet and goat cheese tart. And for something more casual? Charcuterie, hard cheeses, and a crusty baguette are all it needs. It’s the kind of red that’s versatile enough for a weekday dinner, but with enough detail to shine on a proper table.
