Details
Like we said, some of the most exciting Muscadet we have tried for a while. This wine has a sumptuous melon and lime richness framed by a mineral, almost aspirin quality. The Bonnet Blancs spends six months on the lees adding a lovely oily texture to the mouthfeel, yet the wine stays true to the zippy freshness one expects from Muscadet.
Domaine Bonnet-Huteau is a pioneering outfit run by the relentlessly passionate, Jean-Jacques, Rémi Bonnet and Vincent Pineau. The domaine has been family-run for over a century and a half and operates out of the Sèvre & Maine appellation which can be found in the Nantais, the most westerly sub-region of the Loire Valley, close to the city of Nantes. In the trio's quest to make pure and natural wines from their impressive vineyards, they shifted their focus from organic towards biodynamic principles, and have been certified so since 2010. They work hard to promote a healthy ecosystem of life within the soils of their vineyards in a bid to increase both the quality, health and resistance of their grape vines. Winemaking at Bonnet-Huteau is relatively minimal in all but flavour and deliciousness. After their fruit is hand-picked from the vine, gentle pressing of the grapes leads to careful extraction of flavour and aroma before fermentation with natural yeasts. These are some of the most exciting expressions of Muscadet we have tasted for some time.

Pairing guide
Muscadet is one of those white wine varieties of almost mythic status when it comes to food pairing. No wonder it’s a permanent fixture on the wine menu of every French bistro worth its salt, and why it’s the first port of call for so many looking for the ultimate taste sensation at mealtimes! This gorgeous white is going to pair fantastically with all your favourite white fish, seafood, and shellfish creations, and is especially good with raw oysters, mussels, prawns, and scallops. Grilled sardines, chicken breast salads, spicy cauliflower, and zesty vinaigrettes are all also highly recommended.
