Details
A Mediterranean red in every sense. This wine is ripe and juicy with lots of backbone. Attractive blue fruit dominate with an almost blue fruit pastille nose. This is quite a light expression of Monastrell with a gravelly, taught mouthfeel and soft, dusty tannins.
Origin: Valencia in south-eastern Spain. Mainly Grown In: Across Spain and also the Rhone Valley and Provence in France. Key Facts: Mourvèdre (when in France), aka Mataro (when in Australia), aka Monastrell (when in Spain), is a well-travelled grape! Best known in the warmer parts of eastern and central Spain, it also makes brilliant examples in southern France. Some of the oldest vines are in South Australia however, where it makes a chocolatey, fruit-forward wine. Mourvèdre makes full-bodied wines, often high in alcohol and tannin. Savoury and sometimes gamey, the wines are earthy and dark red fruited, with plenty of character. Fun Fact: Mourvèdre is the grape for famed red wine region Bandol, found in Provence in southern France. Provence - not just for rosé!

Pairing guide
This gorgeous red blend from De Andres Sisters really shows off the best of two of Spain’s finest grape varietals, and as such, it’s a beautiful wine for sharing over a hearty dinner. Thanks to the presence of Monastrell in this Shiraz blend, we reckon this wine is destined to be paired with rich, hearty stews and casseroles; the kind which feature hunks of meat that just melt in your mouth. If that’s not your thing, however, there’s no need to worry - this wine is also going to go nicely with strong cheese sauces, meats rubbed with herbs and grilled, shiitake mushrooms, wild rice, and lentils, too.
