Details
This is such a lovely, elegant expression of a Côtes du Rhône Grenache blend that is complete with lovely strawberry notes, a lick of black olive and graphite, and a pretty serious, grown-up set of tannins. Staggering value!
Origin: Southern Rhône, France. Mainly Grown In: Southern France, South Australia, west coast USA. Key Facts: Grenache has a curious way of making a great team captain when it comes to blends. Who can resist the confident red fruity flavours and spice it brings to the game! Though it’s most recognised for its contribution to the GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) blend, it’s no surprise that adventurous Aussies decided to play with the classic mix and have some real fun. Here, Grenache leads the palate with loads of spice and vibrant red fruit flavours. Shiraz brings juiciness and earthy florals, and Mourvèdre finishes the blend with a savoury, sometimes meaty character and tannin. The final wine is a balance of the best parts of all three, which usually means a round medium-bodied mouthful of juicy flavours, violet and lingering savoury spices. Fun Fact: A Pope (Clement V in case you're the curious type) loved this blend so much that the most iconic GSM making region is called Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which means the ‘Pope’s New Castle’. You better believe there was a lot of GSM flowing here.

Pairing guide
You really can’t beat a classic Côtes du Rhône wine at dinner time, and this beautiful bottle from Cuvée des Cardiniers is sure to satisfy the senses. Hugely versatile when it comes to food pairing, this wine will very happily match up with whole roast poultry, game meats and slow-cooked pork, and will also be fabulous with roasted vegetables and garlic-smothered greens. Stews, casseroles and hearty soups will work well, as will family favourites like sausage and mash, cottage pie and lasagna.

Wine region

Côtes du Rhône, France
Côtes du Rhône is a wine-growing region located in the southern part of France, along the Rhône river. It is known for its warm, Mediterranean climate and diverse range of soils, which produce a wide variety of wines. The region is most famous for its red wines, which are made from grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. These wines are known for their rich, spicy flavours and their ability to age well. In addition to red wines, Côtes du Rhône also produces white and rosé wine. The region is home to many small, family-run wineries, as well as some of the oldest and most prestigious estates in France. The wines of Côtes du Rhône are labelled with the region's name, often followed by the name of the subregion or village where the grapes were grown. For example, a wine labelled "Côtes du Rhône-Villages" must come from one of the designated villages within the region, and must adhere to certain quality standards.
