Details
Fermented in Georgian amphora (Qvevri) and aged in oak, this wine does not pull any punches, and it's quite hard to believe it's seven years old. The oak is here for sure, but sits alongside and compliments the fruit, offering up vanilla and cedar sweetness to interlace with dense, dark berry fruit.

Pairing guide
With its big, bold flavours and irresistibly full body, this Saperavi from the ever-impressive Chelti winery is a proper red wine lover’s red wine. As such, it calls out for umami-bomb dishes to be paired with, including favourites like steak with chips and peppercorn sauce, beef brisket recipes, roast eggplant with a miso glaze, truffled vegetables and strong blue cheeses. Mexican black bean dishes will work well, as will penne arrabbiata, slow-cooked turkey or pork shoulder stew, and Venetian duck ragu with plenty of aged parmesan. Superb!

Wine region
Kakheti, Georgia
Kakheti is a wine region located in eastern Georgia, known as the "cradle of wine" due to its long history of winemaking dating back over 8,000 years. The region is famous for producing indigenous grape varieties, such as Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Kisi, and Mtsvane, which are well adapted to the region's hot and dry climate and diverse terroir. The winemaking tradition in Kakheti is deeply rooted in the country's culture and identity, with many wineries still using traditional methods, such as fermenting wine in qvevri (clay vessels buried in the ground), which adds complexity and depth to the wine.
