Details
We adore this spritzy number, and with lower alcohol too - it's super refreshing! The nose is enticing, with candied lime peel and a gorgeous floral character. In the mouth it's such an easy pleaser, with more sweet limey-ness and fabulous freshness to boot!
Origin: Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Portugal and very small amounts in South Africa. Key Facts: Fernão Pires is yet another grape variety worth knowing about when it comes to the diverse range of indigenous grapes and wines of Portugal. It is better suited to the warmer climes of the central and southern parts of the country, with care needed in the vineyard as it has a tendency to over-crop which can lead to dilution of flavour and concentration. However when it is treated with respect, this grape variety is capable of producing excellent white wines with stunning aromatic complexity. Like so many other grapes in Portugal, Fernão Pires can often be found alongside a host of other grape varieties both in the vineyard and in the bottle, in particular Arinto, one of Portugal’s most prolific white grapes. Fun Fact: As with many of the grapes in Portugal, Fernão Pires also goes by another name: 'Maria Gomes'.

Pairing guide
This zippy, spritzy game-changer is turning heads and rewriting the pairing rules. Crisp, citrus-charged, and buzzing with zesty energy, it’s tailor-made for sunny sessions and bold flavours. Chargrilled sardines with that smoky edge? Perfect. Slow-roasted octopus, still sizzling from the oven? Yes please. Pile on the prawns, mussels, and clams - this wine loves a shellfish moment. But don’t stop at seafood: it’s a knockout next to spicy Indian curries, zingy green salads, and anything packed with salty cheese or briny olives.
