Details
Merlot makes up 90% of this wine, with a small dose of Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon making up the rest. This is ageing really well, and starting to show off some secondary character of leather, potpourri and woodsmoke, but still with plenty of fruit to balance everything out effortlessly. Drinking perfectly.
Ah, Château Treytins in Lalande Pomerol is a gem of this Bordeaux sub-region! This family-owned winery has been producing delicious wines for over two centuries. The estate's vineyards benefit from a unique terroir, with clay-limestone soil and a microclimate that is perfect for the grapes to thrive. Despite its rich history, the estate has actually only been producing wines under the Montagne St-Emilion banner since the mid-1990s - which is the wine you are drinking here. The history of the estate goes way back to the 17th century when the land was owned by a wealthy aristocrat. Over time, the estate changed hands several times, and it wasn't until the 19th century that it was acquired by the Treytins family. Since then, the family has been dedicated to producing high-quality wines that truly reflect the terroir of the region. Today, Château Treytins is known for its signature blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, which produce a rich and full-bodied wine with notes of black fruit, leather, and spice. The estate also produces a limited amount of white wine, which is made from a blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes. If you're ever in the Bordeaux region, a visit to Château Treytins is a must for any wine enthusiast! Cheers!

Pairing guide
A good bottle of Merlot is a tough one to beat when it comes to crowd-pleasing Christmas dinner wines, and this release from the wonderful Château Treytins is a fantastic example of what the variety does best. It’s a stunning pairing for bacon dishes, mushroom recipes, garlicky vegetables and anything featuring fattier cuts of lamb, beef or duck, and will also work well with your festive cheese board and winter greens. Truffled chicken, roast turkey and goose, and duck fat potatoes will also hit the spot in style.

Wine region

Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux is a wine region located in southwestern France, known for producing some of the world's most coveted and expensive wines. The main takeaway is that Bordeaux wines are a blend of grape varieties. Sometimes called noble varieties, this includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. This ‘Bordeaux blend’ style is emulated worldwide from Australia to South America!
Key regions can be divided into two areas, the Left Bank and the Right Bank. The Left Bank includes Médoc, comprised of sub-regions - Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, and Margaux. These wines are Cabernet Sauvignon dominant with serious tannin structure for the long term. The Right Bank is known for softer wines made of Merlot. The top right-bank area is Pomerol, home to the iconic Château Pétrus with honourable mentions to Saint-Emilion and Fronsac.
