Details
Slightly spirtzy, this is a blend of Fernão Pires and Arinto, two popular grapes in this part of the world, with a touch of Rabo de Ovelha - a white grape indigenous to the Alentejo region. Herbal and minty, this is full of freshness with white peach fruit and blossom character, finishing with a dusting of white pepper.

Origin: Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Portugal and very small amounts in South Africa. Key Facts: Fernão Pires is yet another grape variety worth knowing about when it comes to the diverse range of indigenous grapes and wines of Portugal. Better suited to the warmer climes of the central and southern parts of the country; care needs to be taken with this grape as it has a tendency to over-crop, which can at times lead to dilution of flavour and concentration in wine. However, when it is treated with respect this grape variety is capable of producing excellent white wine with stunning aromatic complexity. Like so many other grapes in Portugal, Fernão Pires can often be found alongside a host of other grape varieties both in the vineyard and in the bottle, in particular, Arinto, one of Portugal’s most prolific white grapes. Fun Fact: As with many of the grapes in Portugal, Fernão Pires also goes by another name: Maria Gomes.

Pairing guide
We just can’t get enough of this beautiful bottle from Casa Santos Lima, which presents a stunning array of refreshing and revitalising flavours perfect for pairing with some of our favourite dishes. It’s a winner with grilled scallops cooked with lemon, herbs and hazelnut butter, and will work equally well with an array of other seafood and fish dishes, too. Bream, bass and delicate white fish like plaice are especially good, and it’s also going to hit the high notes with a range of classic chicken breast and turkey dishes. Green vegetables, simple salads and creamy pasta creations will be great, as will soft cheeses and fried rice specialties.
