Details
We just can't get enough of Pignoletto! This beauty is complete with fresh notes of orchard fruit, with a fabulous chalky, almost herbal finish. This is the sort of fizz that you don't need to think to hard about. Just get it in the glass and enjoy!
The midlands Italian region of Emilia-Romagna is considered one of the richest culinary areas in all of Italy, but the wines remain underrated, even though to the south of Bologna, the Colli Bolognesi (‘Bolognese Hills’ - no, it’s not what you're thinking) lies one of the historic cradles of viticulture dating back to the Etruscans. Here, for almost a century, Cantina di Sorbara has specialised in distinct styles from the many sub-zones of the area, including wines made from aromatic white variety Pignoletto, and reds from Barbera, Cabernet and Merlot. Most importantly, they produce a range of sparkling Frizzantes and Spumantes for which they’re justly renowned! In 2016 the Cantina di Sorbara joined forces with local producer Cantina Valsamoggia, and since then has had a wealth of grapes and vineyard areas to draw from. They look to the future without forgetting the past, safeguarding their historic methods by the use of modern technology and cutting-edge machinery. The future is looking very bright indeed!

Pairing guide
There really are few wine styles more well-suited to sunny afternoons than bright and breezy sparkling Italian numbers like this one, a beautiful bottle from the esteemed Cantina di Sorbara. We love this fizzy bottle with freshly-grilled white fish, oily fish and seafood, simply tossed on the barbecue with a spritz of lemon, or cooked with pasta or potatoes. It’s also going to be delicious with all kinds of homemade sushi-style dishes, as well as with ceviche and other fresh flavours. Vegetable fritters, fritto misto and lightly battered fish will work wonders here, and it’s great with crispy tofu, too!

Wine region

Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Emilia-Romagna has to be one of the most important food regions in the world as the home of Parmigiano Reggiano and Balsamic Vinegar as well as Ragu or as we know it Spaghetti Bolognese. Aside from the amazing food, there is also some really decent wine to go with it! Known for producing delicious red wines like Lambrusco and Pignoletto as well as Sangiovese as well as white wines like Albana, this region has a unique climate that allows grapes to ripen perfectly. So when you next head to Bologna, make sure you enjoy all of the local produce!
