Details
This is a very grown-up, mature expression of Barbera, complete with notes of sour black cherry and a big, meaty set of tannins. This is a far cry from the often soft, approachable styles that many have come to know and love, instead, this is dense and powerful and outstanding clarity of plummy fruit and sandalwood.
Bricco Carlina is n extremely impressive, high-quality wine estate in Italy's northwestern region of Piedmont. Siblings Camilla and Francesco Scavino founded the estate as recently as 2014 close to the village of Grinzane Cavour and it takes its name from their duo's grandmother's farm where they have enjoyed many a family celebration. This plot is also where the pair started to experiment with winemaking. Bricco Carlina's wines are serious iterations of Piedmont's most prized grape varieties including Barbera and Nebbiolo, as well as growing a rarer Favorita white grape variety. These are progressive wines, with outstanding focus and purity of fruit and terroir - they are undoubtedly Piedmontese. Camilla and Francesco devote themselves to organic viticulture and the belief in being as innovative as possible, but never to the detriment of the natural order of the environment of their impressive wines. This young, exciting estate is certainly one to keep an eye on and we are very much looking forward to working with them here at Good Pair Days.

Pairing guide
Irresistible elegance is matched by plenty of depth and character in this Barbera, resulting in a distinguished red perfect for food pairing. It’s best served with rich dark meats - especially lamb shoulder, duck legs and juicy rib-eye steaks - as well as with wild mushroom ragu, truffled green vegetables, root vegetables roasted with aromatic herbs and strong blue cheeses. Pasta dishes with walnut, sage, roasted tomatoes or game meats work brilliantly, and it’s also excellent with classic stews like goulash.

Wine region

Piedmont, Italy
The Piedmont wine region in Italy is a magical place known for producing world-class wines. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south, and it is characterized by rolling hills and a diverse landscape. The climate in Piedmont is generally cool and wet, with warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. This climate is well-suited to grape growing offering slow and steady ripening conditions which lead to high-quality and expressive wines. Piedmont is most praised for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barbera and Dolcetto are other celebrated reds of the region, and as for its white wines, Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and the rare Nascetta. Piedmont is also famous for its flavorful truffles, often used in local dishes, and pair beautiful with its regional wines.
