Details
Briar Ridge's Albariño is a lean and racy number and it's absolutely singing. It might not be from Spain, but this wine bears all the hallmarks of the grape variety, with a beautiful green apple and citrus crispness, with notes of white flowers and a tangy minerality. Dig a little deeper and we also have subtle notes of tropical fruit and grapefruit. This is a real treat!
Being a company with Aussie roots, it's only natural that we shine the spotlight on some awesome producers coming out of Australia. However it is fair to say that a lot of killer Australian wine sadly does not make it over to the UK, so when we discovered and tasted the epic wines of Briar Ridge, there was only one thing to do! Back in 2022 our Wine Buyer in the UK was attending a dinner in London to celebrate wines from New South Wales, this is when he met Briar's head winemaking sensation, Alex Beckett. At the time, Alex was gaining valuable experience crushing grapes in Germany and made the trip to London to showcase his wines. At this point, the wines were not in the UK, but now they are and we can't wait to share them with you. The team is not afraid to push the boat out with international varieties, working with Albariño and Fiano white grapes, the classic Hunter Valley Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of Briar Ridge are of very high quality and should be on your radar!

Pairing guide
There’s no getting away from the fact that, when it comes to pairing with fish, seafood, sea vegetables and pretty much anything else associated with the cuisine of the coast, Albariño reigns supreme. This beautiful bottle from Briar Ridge will love being paired with all kinds of white fish dishes - from silky fillets of plaice and sole to delicate bass and bream, cod, halibut, monkfish and beyond - as well as shellfish, seaweed salads and sea vegetables like samphire. It’s also excellent with chicken salads, green vegetables like asparagus and Spanish tapas dishes such as croquetas, tortilla and braised butter beans. Yum!

Wine region

Hunter Valley, Australia
The Hunter Valley is located in New South Wales, Australia. It is situated approximately 150km northwest of Sydney and is known for producing world-class Semillon and formidable Chardonnay, Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, and Shiraz.
The region has a long history of winemaking, with the first vines planted in the 1830s. Today, the Hunter Valley is home to more than 150 wineries, ranging from small, family-owned operations to larger, internationally recognized producers such as Tyrell’s Wines, Mount Pleasant Wines and Brokenwood Wines.
Hunter Valley comprises the following sub-regions: Upper Hunter Valley, Broke Fordwich, and Pokolbin. The region's climate is warm and humid, relying on rain, humidity, cloud cover and sea breeze to mitigate the warmth. Soil types vary across the region. Generally, Semillon performs well on the sandy alluvial flats, whereas Shiraz prefers the red loamy soil types.
