Origin: South West France. Mainly Grown In: The South West of France in the key regions of Gaillac, Marcillac and Béarn. Key Facts: The variety has a key place in Gaillac and Marcillac where it makes up the primary component in red wines from these regions. It shares some similar characteristics to Cabernet Franc in terms of taste and tannin structure, yet is instantly recognisable in the local regions. On the plus side, the variety has been known to have high levels of catechins and procyanidins which stop the thickening of blood and help limit the incidence of heart disease. Fun Fact: One of the names this grape is known by is Fer, which is what the Argentinians thought they had brought with them in the late 20th century. It turns out they actually had Malbec but for a while kept the name Fer.

Pairing guide
Crafted with love from a delicious blend of Braucol, Syrah and Duras, this punchy red wine brings mountains of character to the table. We loved this red blend alongside a classic steak dinner, but any red meat - especially game and delicacies like morcilla or other black pudding-style sausage - will work just as well. Portobello mushrooms, truffled potatoes, strong cheeses and slow-cooked tomato-based stews and casseroles are also highly recommended, as are American barbecue favourites like brisket.
