Details
If you asked us to write you a tasting note on how young Tempranillo from Rioja tastes, then it would be something along the lines of this beauty. Purple fruit pastille, kirsch and black cherry notes dominate. This is effortlessly easy-drinking and utterly delicious.

Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: Spain, Portugal, Argentina. Key Facts: You love the bold and the beautiful; the kind of beauty that is confident, self-assured, secure and doesn’t need to spend extra time in the mirror for a self-guided pep talk in order to look mega hot on the dance floor. Meet Tempranillo, a Spanish grape with a confident backbone of tannin balanced with sweeter red fruits like cherries and strawberries and with an alluring kick of spice. Tempranillo is praised both in its youth as well as being able to age. In fact, in Rioja, they have an entire grading system based on the time it spends ageing in oak. The more time in oak, the more expensive, and the more you will notice flavours becoming more leathery and savoury. It is important to remember, however, that more time in oak does not necessarily mean it is better quality. Fun Fact Tempranillo derives from the Spanish word temprano, meaning 'early' because it is an early ripening grape.

Pairing guide
Brilliantly versatile and packed with depth and distinction, this Rioja wine from Torre Aldea is destined for your favourites list. It’s going to be a real hit at your next barbecue - something about a good Rioja and smoky meats and piquant dry rubs always hits the spot - and will also deliver the goods when paired with whole roast poultry, Mediterranean lamb dishes, chorizo and rice combos and Mexican favourites like chicken mole and chilli con carne. Pepperoni pizza, mushroom dishes, smoky roast aubergine or stuffed red peppers will be delicious with this wine, and it’s also wonderful with traditional Spanish pork stews and empanadas.

Wine region
Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
