Details
The ‘Vermador’ range is a focused, organic range from the Bodegas Pinoso winery. Their Macabeo blend is a 60/40 split between Macabeo and Airén, two of the key white varieties in Alicante. The wine displays lots of floral notes, citrus drive and green apple crunch.
The Bodegas Pinoso team is an odd team, you have the affable Irish man, David, who is great at chatting about all things wine with his dreamy accent, but don’t let that fool you as he slips into effortless Spanish when chatting to Miguel, the other half of their team. The winery is based in sunny Alicante, where they have a strong focus on organic management in the vineyard. Pinoso's vineyards are planted at an average of 600m above sea level. This elevation makes for cooler nights allowing their fruit to retain that all-important acidity needed for a balanced wine. The focus of Pinoso is Monastrell (AKA Mourvèdre or Mataro) which is well suited to warm climates and plenty of sun. They make delicious and colourful red and pink wines from this key variety as well as a mix of other varieties in the white space, including the ultra rare Merseguera. We recommend these delicious wines with some jambon or semi-hard cheese.

Pairing guide
With its easy-drinking character and citrus brightness, this Macabeo from Bodegas Pinoso is the perfect choice for some sunny day deliciousness. It’s going to be ideal with dishes of grilled sardines, seafood salads and richer shellfish like crab and lobster, and will work beautifully with steamed Chinese greens and vegetable stir-fries too. All that lemon character makes it a stunning choice for chicken, white fish and Asian noodle creations, and it’ll be wonderful with a big plate of garlic prawns.
