Bodegas Pinoso 'Almorqui' Garnacha Blend 2024
Grape Type Pronunciation: "gren-ash" blend
Primary flavours
Raspberry
Red Cherry
Clove
Liquorice
White Pepper
Details
This is a delightful Garnacha, Monastrell blend with a portion of Merlot added in for good measure. The Almorqui red blend has plenty of upfront red fruit offset by spice, liquorice and some chewy tannin. This is Spain’s answer to a GSM if we have ever seen one.

The Bodegas Pinoso team is an odd team, you have the affable Irish man, David, who is great at chatting about all things wine with his dreamy accent, but don’t let that fool you as he slips into effortless Spanish when chatting to Miguel, the other half of their team. The winery is based in sunny Alicante, where they have a strong focus on organic management in the vineyard. Pinoso's vineyards are planted at an average of 600m above sea level. This elevation makes for cooler nights allowing their fruit to retain that all-important acidity needed for a balanced wine. The focus of Pinoso is Monastrell (AKA Mourvèdre or Mataro) which is well suited to warm climates and plenty of sun. They make delicious and colourful red and pink wines from this key variety as well as a mix of other varieties in the white space, including the ultra rare Merseguera. We recommend these delicious wines with some jambon or semi-hard cheese.

Pairing guide
The coming together of Garnacha and Monastrell - two of Spain’s most iconic red varieties - is always a cause for celebration, and Alicante’s Bodegas Pinoso strikes the perfect balance with this characterful and delicious blend. You’ll find it pairs beautifully with Spanish albondigas meatballs, classic meaty paella dishes (and other rice creations) and steak or other red meats with a spicy marinade. It’s also brilliant with sausage and pasta combos, portobello mushrooms, stuffed red capsicums and meat or vegetarian stews with plenty of paprika and garlic. What’s not to love?
