Details
Zesty and bright with lemon and green apple up front, this Cava brings a creamy hit of lemon curd, a waxy richness, and a quirky pop of sweetcorn that totally works.

Bodegas Alceño is the oldest commercial winery in Jumilla, and one of the coolest! Founded way back in 1870, this place has seen it all, from the post-phylloxera vineyard boom to becoming a serious pioneer in the region’s wine game. These days, it's in the hands of the Bastida family, who’ve kept the heart and soul of the winery intact while bringing in some slick modern upgrades. They're all about balance - tradition meets innovation - with a focus on sustainable vineyard practices, old-school concrete tanks, and some of the most thoughtful winemaking you’ll find in southern Spain. Oh, and if you’re a fan of Monastrell? You’re in for a treat - Jumilla is the place for it, and Alceño knows exactly how to make it sing. Right now, Alceño is on a roll, turning out beautifully expressive wines across the board. From classic Monastrell reds to juicy Syrah blends, refreshing whites, and even sparkling made in the "Champenoise" method - they’re constantly pushing boundaries while staying grounded in their roots. Their cellar is a mix of ancient and modern - original 19th-century barrels sit side by side with temperature-controlled concrete and oak fermenters. Whether you’re into silky, oak-aged selections or fresh, fruit-forward bottles, Alceño is a total vibe. It’s one of those wineries where every bottle tells a story - and trust us, it’s a story worth sipping.

Pairing guide
When it comes to food pairings, a good Spanish Cava like this gem from Bodegas Alceño is your ultimate all-rounder. It’s got the bubbles and brightness to handle crispy fried favourites like calamari or chicken wings, but it also shines next to a classic paella. Surprisingly great with tricky veg like asparagus and artichokes (yep, really), it’s also a dream picnic pour - think cold cuts, cheeses, and whatever salad you’ve thrown together. And don’t stop there - it’s fab with fruity desserts like pavlova or apple tart, so grab a bottle and let your tastebuds go wild.

Wine region
Jumilla, Spain
Despite its hot and harsh conditions, Jumilla has a long history of wine production, with evidence of vine cultivation dating back to the ancient Roman Empire. The Jumilla wine region is located in the southeast of Spain, in the province of Murcia (2.5 hours drive South of Valencia). Jumilla is hot and dry! Thankfully, the high lime content of the soils retains the necessary moisture for often unirrigated vines; the other saving grace is the elevation between 400-800m – offering cool evening respite for the vines. The region is particularly famous for its powerful and rich red wines such as Monastrell and international varieties Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. White varieties like Airen, Macabeo, Pedro Ximénez and Malvasia are also worth a look!
