Details
This is what a youthful, fruit-driven Rioja is all about! Expect lively crunchy blue fruit notes that dance across the nose and the palate with a subtle blackberry undertow. This is vibrant and very, very easy to drink.

Origin: Spain. Mainly Grown In: Spain, Portugal, Argentina. Key Facts: You love the bold and the beautiful; the kind of beauty that is confident, self-assured, secure and doesn’t need to spend extra time in the mirror for a self-guided pep talk in order to look mega hot on the dance floor. Meet Tempranillo, a Spanish grape with a confident backbone of tannin balanced with sweeter red fruits like cherries and strawberries and with an alluring kick of spice. Tempranillo is praised both in its youth as well as being able to age. In fact, in Rioja, they have an entire grading system based on the time it spends ageing in oak. The more time in oak, the more expensive, and the more you will notice flavours becoming more leathery and savoury. It is important to remember, however, that more time in oak does not necessarily mean it is better quality. Fun Fact: Tempranillo is the red grape used in the famous wines of Rioja.

Pairing guide
Big, bold and more than a little beautiful, this delicious Tempranillo wine is a fantastic showcase of what the Rioja region does best. You can really dial up the flavour when it comes to food pairing with this wine - it’s going to love being paired with hearty lamb tagines and other stews, barbecued ribs and steaks with a paprika rub, chorizo braises and whole roast poultry. Mexican and Tex-Mex classics like chilli con carne, carnitas, fajitas and mole sauces will work brilliantly (including vegetarian alternatives), and it’s also delicious with corn and polenta-based dishes, too.

Wine region
Rioja, Spain
Rioja (riˈouhɑ) is one of Spain’s most well-known wine regions, located in the north of Spain. The region has a long history of making wine that dates back to the period of the Roman Empire. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot summers and cool winters which suits the varieties of Rioja; Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano. Graciano almost became extinct due to the effects of phylloxera in the late 1800s however, luckily, the variety is back in full swing. There are three main classifications of wine according to their ageing process- Crianza, Reserve and Gran Reserva.
