Details
A delightfully sweet dessert wine here made from grapes affected by a special mould called botrytis. Don't worry though - all it does is increase the ratio of sugar to water in the grape, and this imparts a lovely orange marmalade quality, often associated with the fine dessert wines of Sauternes in France. Faithfully, the nose offers up candied orange and apricots drizzled in honey. Get the cheese out!
Berton vineyard was founded by Bob and Cherie Berton in the mid-90's and since then, they have become an important wine producer for South Australia, with particular success here in the UK. The duo started off life in South Australlia's Barossa Valley where they tend to around 30 hectares of vineyards. Much of their growth and production however, can be attributed to the relationships that they hold with growers in the Riverina in New South Wales. Their various and diverse wine portfolio from this part of Australia is now responsible for the majority of their output, as each vineyard parcel is fermented separately, before being blended with other parcels based on their quality output. Berton's wines are a fantastic example of industry meets quality. Their state-of-the-art winery allows them to not only produce consistent wines at scale, but maintain a high quality as they look produce wines that are fun, friendly and approachable, through to more premium, single site wines of excellent quality.

Pairing guide
We’re pretty big fans of botrytised wines here at Good Pair Days - a historic winemaking method that sees the grapes wither on the vine, intensifying the sugars and bringing out a beautiful array of honeyed flavours. This type of dessert wine works beautifully with dishes featuring roasted nuts or grilled fruit - roast pineapple and peaches works particularly well - as well as with caramelised apples or dark chocolate with orange. It’s also absolutely gorgeous with strong blue cheeses, so keep an open mind when it comes to matching contrasting flavours!

Wine region

Riverina, Australia
The Riverina wine region is one of the three that is the backbone of the Australian wine industry, alongside the Riverland and Murray Darling. The region has a hot and dry climate with long summers and cool winters, making it ideal for growing grapes. The home of Riverina is Griffith where there is a wide range of wines produced from classic Shiraz and Chardonnay to one of the most recognised wines in Australia, the De Bortoli Noble One.
