Details
This is textbook Vino Nobile from one of the best around. Classic notes of sour red cherry and spice are present, with cranberry and redcurrant appeal. Par for the course with Sangiovese, we love the fresh acidity here.
The Avignonesi Winery takes its name from the legendary, eponymous township in Tuscany that is home to both incredible Sangiovese - Italy's premier red grape - and the nation's first DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Owner Virginie Saverys oversees operations here with her partner Max De Zarobe. The pair meticulously and tirelessly run the estate, focusing on wines crafted from 100% estate-grown fruit, made under biodynamic practice. The estate covers around 160 hectares of land and the team has taken great care to plant cover crops between their rows of vines in order to promote as much biodiversity throughout the land as possible. With an eye on the future, Avignonesi is keen to bring through the next generation of winemakers and boasts a young, international crew as well as using the most modern, up-to-date technology in the winery to ensure the utmost quality of their wine. These are fantastic wines and undoubtedly Tuscan in style.

Pairing guide
The Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2020 is a refined, velvety red with layers of dark cherry, dried herbs, and warm spice, making it an impeccable match for rich Italian classics like Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar ragu, or aged Pecorino cheese. Its elegant tannins and earthy depth also enhance truffle-infused dishes, roasted game, or a hearty mushroom risotto. For a more laid-back but equally delicious pairing, try it with a gourmet burger or slow-cooked short ribs, where its structure and complexity elevate every bite. An excellent Italian Red.
