Details
This is a real blend of local and rare varieties, with a mix of Canaiolo, Sangiovese, Mammolo, Alicante and a splash of Ciliegiolo. The Da-Di wines are brightly labelled and treated differently, with this wine being fermented and aged in terracotta vessels with a mix of whole bunches and whole berries. The wine is bright and vivid, with layers of red fruit and silky tannin.
The Avignonesi Winery takes its name from the legendary, eponymous township in Tuscany that is home to both incredible Sangiovese - Italy's premier red grape - and the nation's first DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Owner Virginie Saverys oversees operations here with her partner Max De Zarobe. The pair meticulously and tirelessly run the estate, focusing on wines crafted from 100% estate-grown fruit, made under biodynamic practice. The estate covers around 160 hectares of land and the team has taken great care to plant cover crops between their rows of vines in order to promote as much biodiversity throughout the land as possible. With an eye on the future, Avignonesi is keen to bring through the next generation of winemakers and boasts a young, international crew as well as using the most modern, up-to-date technology in the winery to ensure the utmost quality of their wine. These are fantastic wines and undoubtedly Tuscan in style.
