Details
This is another stunning Cortese here with bright notes of green apples and citrus zest. As one expects from this grape, this is clean, pure and fresh on the palate with a lovely, attractive mineral character with a faint suggestion of almond on the finish.

Origin: Piedmont, Italy. Mainly Grown In: It doesn't stray far - Piedmont, in northwest Italy. Key Facts: Often referred to as Italy's most premium white grape variety or even, 'the white Barolo'. The chances are that you've probably already tried Cortese and didn't even realise it. It's the only grape permitted in what is arguably Italy's most famous white wine, Gavi (or Gavi di Gavi just to confuse things a bit). If you've ever tried a Gavi, then you've tried Cortese. This grape makes wines that are lip-smackingly fresh and crisp with bags of fresh lemon and citrus notes. So if you tend to drink Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc, then we are sure that Cortese is the grape for you. Around 90% of the worlds Cortese can be found in the region of Piedmont, northwest Italy. Fun Fact: Cortese (or Gavi) is a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc!

Pairing guide
You really can’t beat a quality Cortese wine at lunchtime, especially if that lunchtime involves dishes inspired by this variety’s northern Italian heartlands. We’re talking pesto pasta (or any dish containing the fundamentals of a classic basil pesto), chicken cooked in white wine, salty cheeses like feta, and seafood risotto. Cafe classics like Salade Niçoise and spaghetti vongole will also delight the senses, as will spinach salads, grilled goat’s cheese and sushi. Delicious!

Wine region
Piedmont, Italy
The Piedmont wine region in Italy is a magical place known for producing world-class wines. The region is bordered by the Alps to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south, and it is characterized by rolling hills and a diverse landscape. The climate in Piedmont is generally cool and wet, with warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. This climate is well-suited to grape growing offering slow and steady ripening conditions which lead to high-quality and expressive wines. Piedmont is most praised for its red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, which are made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barbera and Dolcetto are other celebrated reds of the region, and as for its white wines, Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and the rare Nascetta. Piedmont is also famous for its flavorful truffles, often used in local dishes, and pair beautiful with its regional wines.
