Details
Serrano's top wine does not pull any punches. This blend of Tempranillo, Monastrell, Grenache (Garnacha) and Cabernet Sauvignon is complexity in a bottle. Expect a focus of purple fruit, with rich and intense notes of violets, bacon fat and brilliant heady aromas of damson. A fantastic wine. Aged for six months in amphora and a further two years in barrel.

Antonio Serrano is a young, exciting winemaker with his feet firmly rooted in the wine trade. Found in Spain's vast La Mancha region, which covers pretty much the entire central plateau of the country, you will find Serrano's vineyards. This is a hot part of Spain and a region that heavily relies on altitude to mitigate sometimes extreme summer temperatures. Antonio's vineyards can be found between 750m and 1,000m above sea level. With respect to grapes, Tempranillo (locally known as 'Cencibel') and the ubiquitous Airén grape varieties dominate, and these are wines of impressive purity and finesse. All of the vines are at least 50 years old - and you can tell - the concentration and power of these wines stand out, as does their elegance and tension. Winemaking here is organic and minimal. Concrete vats are preferred to stainless steel and amphorae are also employed in the process. For his more premium wines, Serrano likes to age them in French oak, offering up another layer of complexity to his juice.

Pairing guide
You’ve got to love this beautifully balanced Tempranillo blend, which perfectly matches depth and power with no shortage of Iberian charm and a delicious array of flavours. Ideal for bringing out alongside rich, roasted and chargrilled meats, it’s also excellent with all your favourite stews, braises, casseroles and slow-cooked lamb, beef, pork and poultry specialties. Black beans, mushrooms, paprika-dusted vegetables and cured pork products all make for excellent pairings, and it’s a clear winner with traditional Spanish and Mexican dishes, polenta and other corn-based savoury treats.

Wine region
Castilla-La Mancha, Spain
La Mancha is a wine region in Spain known for its hot and dry climate, high altitude vineyards, and significant grape production the top sub-regions are Almansa, Jumilla, and Manchuela, each with its own unique wine styles. The terroir across these regions can be characterized by the high chalk content of its soil, which helps to retain moisture during the arid summers. The top wine styles produced in La Mancha are primarily red wines made from the Tempranillo grape, including the well-known Crianza and the top tier Reserva styles, as well as Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. However, the region also produces some white wines made from the fruity Airen grape, which is a native varietal of La Mancha and one of the most widely planted white grape varieties in the world.
