Details
This sensational white effortlessly walks the tightrope between funk and purity with oodles of melon and citrus balm notes alongside white florals and a touch of mead. On the palate subtle orange peel and blossom, notes shine through onto a zippy, lively finish. The Ancestral is António's iteration of historical Alentejo wine and is a must-try for anyone looking to try something new.

António Maçanita's rise to fame not only in Portugal but in the wider wine world has not gone unnoticed. Simply put, this guy is a revolutionary. Whilst he has picked up a raft of awards over the years for his outstanding, precise wines, his approach to winemaking is quite different. António showcases Portugal's well-known region of Alentejo through the lens of his 'Fitapreta' range with vigour, crafting incredible wines with a nod, always to traditions and processes. Maçanita goes against the grain in almost every way and pushes us to be open to his rogue approach to winemaking. Such confidence and boldness can only be put down to his years of experience working with some of the best producers in the world, from Bordeaux to Napa Valley and Australia. Maçanita also makes outstanding wines in the Douro Valley and the volcanic Azores islands, the latter of which is getting some serious traction in the wine game thanks to the likes of António and a small amount of pioneering vigneron.

Pairing guide
Roupeiro is yet another beautiful Portuguese white variety enjoying the spotlight this year, and with its crisp acidity and food-friendly character, it really isn’t hard to see why. This is the ideal accompaniment to all your favourite peri-peri creations - that mix of citrus, herbs and chilli never fails to work wonders with this wine. Oily fish like mackerel and sardines always hits the spot, and it’s great with grilled chicken salads, green vegetable dishes and shellfish pasta, too.
