Details
Arguably Chris' most famous wine is his 'Cartology' cuvée. 'Hereafter Here' takes fruit from young Chenin Blanc vines, that are essentially being groomed to eventually be used for Cartology. Yellow fruit, intense spice, honey notes and kaffir lime characters dominate. Rich and round in the mouth, but with tension and taut, Chenin Blanc acidity. World-class.
Chris Alheit needs little introduction. He is one of South Africa's most talented winemakers and has been producing cult wine in a reasonably short space of time, but that has not stopped his meteoric rise to fame. Alheit's wines are very sought after and hard to get, with most of them being sold on allocation, so when you have the chance to taste them, take it. Chris is constantly on the lookout for new vineyard parcels. He specialises in world-class white wine production, harnessing the cornucopia of variety on show in the Western Cape. He works closely with leading viticulturist Rosa Kruger to seek out some of the Cape's best terroirs, and works extremely diligently in his modest garage-style winery, being careful to intensely wash all of his barrels and tanks before a new batch of wine comes in, in order to protect the identity and typicity of each parcel, even at a microbial level. Rare wines, and exceptionally well priced for the quality.

Pairing guide
This Chenin Blanc from Chris Alheit is an absolute joy to behold, and opens the doors of possibility for some absolutely gorgeous food pairings. Chenin Blanc loves a blend of sweet, sour, and savoury flavours, so dishes like pork with apple, turkey with berries, and Asian sweet-and-sour classics always tend to work well. It can handle plenty of chilli heat, too, so don’t be shy with your fiery noodle favourites, Japanese curries, and Sichuan fish. It’s also delicious with salads served with creamy dressings, or a roast pork dinner!
