Details
Spritz alert everyone! In true Vinho Verde style, this wine has a typical fizz that will give you a B..B Bounce. Made from almost entirely from the Loureiro grape variety, this is a wine that perfectly encapsulates the spirit and style of Vinho Verde. Modest alcohol meets a gentle spritz, making this a dangerously delicious, delightful number. It's racy, clean and mineral with lovely citrus-laden purity.

Origin: Northern Portugal. Mainly Grown In: Northern Portugal's Vinho Verde region and Galicia, Spain. Key Facts: Loureiro is mostly grown in northern Portugal where it plays a vital role in the region's most well-known wine: Vinho Verde. To the north of that, across the border in Spain, small pockets of this grape variety also crop up, however, it very much plays second fiddle to the region's more prolific variety, Albariño, which it is sometimes blended with. This grape is capable of producing both young, clean and fresh (sometimes spritzy) styles of white, but it does well with a bit of lees ageing, which adds body, weight and complexity, making for a more serious style. Whatever the weather, wines made from Loureiro are always wonderfully crisp, and any Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling fans should take a closer look at this gem from Portugal. Fun Fact: Say it with us - "Loo-rey-ro". There you go - simples.

Pairing guide
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: Loureiro wines really are where it’s at right now! This delicious bright and zesty bottle from Adega Ponte de Barca couldn’t be more up our street if it tried, and it’s going to pair brilliantly with the kind of laid-back Iberian cuisine we love so much. Grilled sardines, cod cakes, seafood rice and grilled chicken salads will all be excellent pairings for this bottle, as will bistro-style dishes like chicken in white wine sauce, pea and goat’s cheese salads, and green risottos packed full of spinach, beans and asparagus. Yum!

Wine region
Vinho Verde, Portugal
Vinho Verde is a wine region located in the Minho province of Portugal, known for producing light and refreshing wines that are perfect for warm weather. The region's name, which means "green wine," refers to the young age of the wines, which are typically consumed within a year of their production. The wines are typically made from indigenous grape varieties, such as Alvarinho and Loureiro, and are characterised by their low alcohol content, high acidity, and slight effervescence. There is a fascinating tradition of having the vines climb up high so you can pick the grapes while standing however this has mostly faded out now.
