The Spanish Snapshot
1. Emendis 'Puigmolto' Brut Nature Cava
If you’re a fan of sparkling wines, then buckle up, because Emendis Cava is about to take you on a bubbly joyride! Nestled in the heart of Penedès, Spain - think rolling vineyards and sun-kissed days - Emendis is all about crafting cava with character. They’ve been at it for generations, perfecting the art of bubbly bliss. This is a bit greener on the nose than the brut, with notes of celery and grass. We love the effortless balance between those green characters and the patisserie accent. Good complexity with a slightly nutty finish.
2. Alma de Mecenas Rosé 2025
Founded in 1956, Viñedos de Aldeanueva is a passionate and ever-reliable outfit from Rioja, Spain's premier wine-producing region. Their range and multitude of vineyards play host to what they believe to be the greatest diversity of grape varieties in all of La Rioja - that's quite the statement - however, when you take a deeper dive into the company, these are spread between their four estates. A delightful rosé here from the ever-reliable Alma de Mecenas, locked and loaded with plenty of ripe, sweet red fruit character, complemented by texture and a faint dusting of fresh herbs.
3. Marqués de Ardoza Bobal Blend 2025
An easy drinking Spanish red with notes of plum and cherry. This is a simple red, done really well. The nose is all juicy plum and cherry - red and black, fresh and dried - with a subtle earthy undertone. Fruit concentration is solid, this is a wine about pleasure over complexity.
