Natural, Orange, Skinsy

Three of our favourite natural, orange & skinsy wines - £90

Natural, Orange, Skinsy

1. 'Full of Rage' Orange 2022

Christopher Full has got to be one of the most exciting young winemakers coming out of Germany at the moment. Our wine team recently discovered this whizz-kid back in early 2023 on a trip to Germany, where we were immediately drawn in by Christopher's epic wine labels... then things got really interesting. Christopher has Riesling (amongst other grapes) running through his veins and his outstanding, superb range of small-batch, hand-crafted wines are nothing short of exceptional. Here we have a superb skin-contact orange wine made from the Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) grape variety. This is funky but clean, with an attractive orange character as well as ripe strawberry and a dusting of black cherry fruit. Tart and fresh in the mouth with a lick of grip and a waxy mouthfeel, we are head over heels for this wine!

2. 'Methódic' Orange 2023

Vins l'Apical is a notable winery located in a prime wine-growing region of Penedés in Spain, known for its dedication to producing quality wine, with a focus on minimal intervention and a philosophy of making fruit-forward, terroir-driven wines. The vineyard is carefully managed to ensure optimal conditions for grape cultivation, resulting in wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the local terroir. Made from the rare Xarel-lo Vermell grape variety, this orange wine is approachable and just plain fun! Fermented on the skins in an amphora, we love the pretty, floral notes on the nose, with hints of confected orange fruit and Gummy Bears. The tannins are elegant and soft, and watch out for a lovely white pepper accent on the finish.

3. 'Kontakt' Rosé 2023

Philip Lardot is a young winemaker who is beginning to make waves in Germany's natural winemaking scene. The Finnish-born winemaker grew up in Amsterdam. Lardot spent the 2015 and 2016 vintages working apprenticeships across France, before settling in Germany to pave his own way in the wine world. This wine is all about that vivid, slightly funk fruitset hemmed in beautifully by searing acidity. Tight, taut and down the line, this is a serious rosé, gastronomic and pure, with effortless elegance and balance from top to bottom.
