Three Must Try Argentinian Wines - £71
Three Must Try Argentinian Wines
Las Perdices Albariño Reserve 2023
This limited-production Albariño opens with an aromatic burst of citrus and stone fruit - ripe lemon, mandarin, and white peach - layered with jasmine, honeysuckle, and a touch of fennel. Subtle mineral notes, beeswax, and white pepper add depth. It's got refreshing salinity with a creamy texture, making for a complex and effortlessly delicious white. In the foothills of the Andes, where the sun-drenched soils of Mendoza meet the cool mountain air, Viña Las Perdices tells a story of family, perseverance, and innovation. Every bottle is a tribute to the land, the legacy, and the enduring belief that great wine begins with passion, patience, and place.
San Lucas Rosé 2025
The San Lucas rosé is a nice mix of local Malbec, Chenin Blanc and Pedro Giménez. The result is a creamy, fresh wine with notes of summer berries and a hint of herbaceousness. Rosé is predominantly made from red grape varieties. The colour in wine comes from the pigment found in the skins of the grapes, so even red grapes have clear-coloured juice. The colour is then ‘bled’ out of the skins by infusing the skins into the juice. So for rosé, the wine simply spends far less time hanging out with the skins! Rarely you will find a rosé that is a combo of white and red grapes – they’re not ‘less good’, just less common. Rosé is super versatile – it suits any occasion. Best to always have a bottle in the fridge, just in case, you know… Wednesday happens or something.
Bodegas Casarena 'Naoki' Malbec 2021
This wine is all about balance and poise, power and precision. The nose is pure varietal charm - a vivid mix of ripe red and black fruits layered with herbal lift and a touch of minerality that speaks clearly of the Naoki vineyard’s character. On the palate, it’s silky and seamless, with beautifully integrated tannins and a vibrant acidity that slices cleanly through the lush, concentrated fruit. There’s depth and complexity here, but also restraint - the freshness keeps it agile, while the mineral and herbal undertones add intrigue to the long, graceful finish. Bodegas Casarena operate in what many like to call the 'Hollywood' of sub-regions in Mendoza: Luján de Cuyo. This part of Argentina's most prolific wine region is home to some of the best vineyards and most high-profile producers the country has to offer.
