Story
Contratto is a winery that has a history dating back to 1867, with a razor sharp focus on the art of good aperitif, from producing delicious sparkling wines to a range of liqueurs and vermouths that are sure to get your palate going at any party. The winery is located in the heart of Piedmont, where their Alta Langa sparkling wines have a solid reputation as well as great labels. Beyond the sparkling wines, there is a focus on vermouths, fernet and bitters.
The winery has been responsible for supplying wines to the Vatican and to the Italian Royal family as well as having a Cathedral within the winery grounds which is a UNESCO heritage site. The winemaker, Giorgio Rivetti, is Piedmont royalty whose father created La Spinetta in 1977 as well as Giorgio studying oenology in Alba at the age of 16.
The bitter is made from a recipe dating back to 1933 and is a balanced aperitif based on a combination of Italian brandy and 24 delicately infused natural herbs, spices roots and seeds.

PAIRING GUIDE
Crafted from a unique blend of botanicals, this bitter aperitif is an absolute winner in our book. Ideal for blending into the kinds of cocktails we can never resist at meal times, it’s a fascinating one to pair with various dishes and ingredients. We personally loved how well it worked with juicy pork loin, salty charcuterie items and ingredients like caraway and mustard - bringing out that deeply satisfying botanical hit - but it’s also going to be excellent with salty Italian aged cheeses, orange and fennel salad, citrus-marinated seafood and anything featuring the autumnal flavours of nuts and dried fruits.
