Story
Contratto is a winery that has a history dating back to 1867, with a razor sharp focus on the art of good aperitif, from producing delicious sparkling wines to a range of liqueurs and vermouths that are sure to get your palate going at any party. The winery is located in the heart of Piedmont, where their Alta Langa sparkling wines have a solid reputation as well as great labels. Beyond the sparkling wines, there is a focus on vermouths, fernet and bitters.
The winery has been responsible for supplying wines to the Vatican and to the Italian Royal family as well as having a Cathedral within the winery grounds which is a UNESCO heritage site. The winemaker, Giorgio Rivetti, is Piedmont royalty whose father created La Spinetta in 1977 as well as Giorgio studying oenology in Alba at the age of 16.
Contratto's Aperitif is a standout and a fabulous alternative to Aperol. With intense notes of gentian and orange peel, don't waste any time in getting this into your glass and topping it up with soda, or Prosecco!

PAIRING GUIDE
It’s always exciting to seek out new aperitif creations to share with you all, and this botanical-rich beauty from Contratto is right up there with the best of them. Perfect for mixing into vibrant and flavourful cocktails, it’s ideal for matching with charcuterie dishes, Italian cheeses, baked feta with sesame and honey, and all kinds of light savoury bites and tapas creations. Roasted nuts and dishes making a star ingredient of sunflower or pumpkin seeds will work well, and it’s also excellent with fried arancini balls and similar street food favourites, too.
