Story
Blackwater Distillery was created by Peter Mulryan, a TV presenter who had a passion for Whiskey, which included writing a couple of books on the subject. Peter’s interest turned from drinker to owner, when he purchased an old hardware store and converted it into a distillery. Blackwater is named after the nearby river, which is referred to as ‘An Abhainn Mhor’ or the big river, which winds its way through southern Ireland between the counties of Cork and Waterford.
The distillery obviously has an eye for making fine Irish Whiskey with several that are worth pouring a peg or two, however they have also moved into making some lovely gin and vodka. One of the key ingredients in gin and whiskey is the source of water, and when you venture to the distillery, you’ll be transported to a place of beauty where it is easy to see that the water source is as pure as you can get.
The No.5 Gin is a classic London Dry style made up of 12 botanicals, with all the usual suspects found. This is your pure gin to have with tonic or to shake, or stir, things up to make a delicious martini.

PAIRING GUIDE
We can’t get enough of this deliciously aromatic, botanical-rich small batch gin from Blackwater, which not only tastes fantastic but acts as the perfect base for a cocktail to serve with dinner. Like most gin, this one is a fabulous pairing for raw or lightly-grilled seafood dishes, smoked salmon and even cod and chips. However, it’s also excellent with goat’s cheese recipes and will also pair very well with homemade chicken liver pate or duck rillettes. Magical!
