Story

Tucked away on the wild, windswept Black Isle peninsula in the Scottish Highlands, Black Isle Brewing Co. is a pioneer of organic beer brewing with a serious love for flavour and the environment.

Founded in 1998 by David Gladwin, a visionary Englishman with a passion for sustainable agriculture and great beer, the brewery was born out of a simple belief: that beer can be both better tasting and better for the planet. Surrounded by rolling fields and a rugged coastline, the brewery grows its organic barley and sources local ingredients wherever possible, brewing from the ground up.

Black Isle’s beer range is as bold as its landscape. From crisp, hop-forward IPAs and pale ales to rich, full-bodied porters and experimental seasonals, there’s something for every kind of beer lover. Their beers are unfiltered, organic, and full of character, kind of like the team behind them! You can enjoy the full experience at their flagship Inverness bar or their legendary eco-friendly bothies, where beer meets bonfires, stargazing, and a touch of Highland magic.

Hibernator 'Oatmeal Stout' is a velvety, comforting classic. With notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and a smooth, creamy finish, it's the perfect post-sunset companion. Best enjoyed when the weather turns moody or at the end of a long day.

PAIRING GUIDE

This, right here, is a proper beer lover’s beer. Crafted with love and heritage, Black Isle Brewery is a serious Highland business, crafting drinks that don’t pull any punches when it comes to flavour. Deep, rich and seductive, this oatmeal stout is going to taste fantastic with classic Scottish fare like haggis and other offal dishes, and pairs very well with fattier cuts of beef served with peppercorn sauce. Tried and tested pairings include raw shellfish like oysters, steamed mussels and clams, and we also reckon it tastes brilliant with the darkest chocolate and coffee cake you can muster. Lush.
