Details
This is classical Sangiovese from its ancestral home in Chianti with a savoury wine that will have you all set for cool nights and bowls of pasta. There is a waft of dried provincial herbs intertwined with brambly berries and red cherries. Fittingly the wine finishes with lengthy tannins that will match perfectly with some tomato-based pasta.

Picture yourself at the half-time huddle of a footy game where the coach is giving you a life lesson on only getting one shot at it. In the case of Le Cinciole, the shot was to jump into a wine game that is taken as seriously as it gets, with no prior knowledge of making wine by the way, and diving headfirst into the contest.Valeria Viganò and Luca Orsini purchased the property 30 years ago and have evolved into some of the more exciting producers in the region. The winery has evolved from a standard affair to an all encompassing environmental powerhouse with biodynamic and organic farming, solar power and passive housing. After an initial focus on being heavy handed with the use of oak, they have evolved to reign back the oak and focus on the quality of fruit as well. The lovely aspect of Le Cinciole is the evolution from a couple buying a piece of land with very little knowledge of winemaking to ending up with a completely holistic approach to making wine in Chianti.

Pairing guide
If you’re on the hunt for the true taste of Tuscany, you can do a whole lot worse than this delicious bottle of Chianti Classico. Sangiovese wines have a natural affinity for cooked and stewed tomatoes, rich ragu sauces, and hearty Italian fare… and to deviate from this traditional set of pairings would be a fool’s game. Robust meat dishes, such as ossobuco are going to go down a storm, as are dishes of slow-cooked lamb and beef. Divine.
